§ 12-318. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Graffiti means any symbol, announcement, insignia, name identification or similar marking which is painted, written, drawn, scratched or otherwise placed on property without the consent of the owner or person in control of the property and which defaces the property, except as authorized by law.

    Legal guardian means and includes a person appointed guardian, or given custody, of a minor by a Circuit Court of this State, but does not include a person appointed guardian or given custody of a minor under the Illinois Juvenile Court Act.

    Minor means a person who has attained 11 years of age, but who has not yet reached 18 years of age.

    Person means and includes any individual and any public or private entity.

    Property means and includes real property and tangible personal property, both private and public.

    Vandalism means and includes the deliberate defacement, mutilation or destruction of property.
