 Article III. FEES

  § 14-57. Transfer of license.

  • (a)

    When any owner who has paid the license fee for which provision is made in this article sells his vehicle prior to the date at which such license expires, such vendor shall remove the license tag from such vehicle and immediately notify the Village Clerk of such sale giving the village and state license number of the car so sold, the date of sale, and the name and address of the purchaser, and whether it is the desire of the vendor to transfer such license to the purchaser. In the event that the vendor indicates such desire, it is the duty of the purchaser to make application for such transfer, and upon the payment of $1.00, the Village Clerk shall transfer the license to such purchaser.

    (b)

    Where a vehicle licensed hereunder is sold during the year for which the license is issued, and the former owner desires to have the license transferred to a new vehicle purchased by him, he shall make application therefor to the village. The application shall give a detailed description, including the horsepower of the newly purchased vehicle to which the license is to be transferred. If the license is to be transferred to a vehicle of the same class as that for which the license was originally issued, the village shall transfer the license for use upon the new vehicle upon the payment of a fee of $1.00. If the license is to be transferred from a vehicle of one class to a vehicle of a class for which the payment of a greater fee is required by this article, before the transfer shall be effected the owner shall pay to the village the difference between the amount previously paid and the amount due upon the new vehicle, except that if the transfer is made after the expiration of six months of the license year, one-half of the difference between such amount shall be paid. If the license is to be transferred from a vehicle of one class to a vehicle of a class for which payment of a lesser fee is required by this article, the village shall transfer the license for use upon the new vehicle without the payment of any further fee.
