§ 14-114. Maximum speeds.

  • (a)

    V illage-wide speed limit of 25 mph on local streets. Except for collector streets defined in subsection (b) of this section, major streets defined in subsection (c) of this section, and the Edens Expressway, all streets of the village are defined as local streets, upon which the speed limit shall be 25 mph. The Village Engineer is authorized to post signs at the village's jurisdictional boundaries, which indicate a village-wide speed limit of 25 mph unless otherwise posted. Such signs shall be posted in accord with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

    (b)

    Collector streets. The following streets are defined as collector streets, upon which the maximum speed limit shall be 30 mph unless, in accordance with engineering criteria such as those developed by the Illinois Department of Transportation, a different maximum speed limit is established and posted with appropriate signs giving notice of such different limit by authorities having jurisdiction over the collector street:

    (1)

    Illinois Road, from the north village limits to Wilmette Avenue.

    (2)

    Laramie Avenue, from the north to the south village limits.

    (3)

    Hibbard Road, from Skokie Boulevard to Old Glenview Road.

    (4)

    Wilmette Avenue, from Hibbard Road to Glenview Road.

    (5)

    Wilmette Avenue, from Green Bay Road to Elmwood Avenue.

    (6)

    Tenth Street, from Elmwood Avenue to Sheridan Road.

    (7)

    Old Glenview Road, from Hibbard Road to Wilmette Avenue.

    (8)

    Locust Road, from Lake Avenue to Glenview Road.

    (9)

    Hunter Road, from the north village limits to Wilmette Avenue.

    (10)

    Isabella Street, from Sterling Lane to the east village limits.

    (11)

    Linden Avenue, from Green Bay Road to Sheridan Road.

    (12)

    Central Avenue, from Park Avenue to Sheridan Road.

    (13)

    Twelfth Street, from Lake Avenue to Central Avenue.

    (14)

    Park Avenue, from Wilmette Avenue to Central Avenue.

    (15)

    Fourth Street, from Isabella Street to Lake Avenue.

    (c)

    Major streets. The following streets area defined as major streets, upon which the maximum speed limit shall be 30 miles per hour unless, in accordance with engineering criteria such as those developed by the Illinois Department of Transportation, a different maximum speed limit is established and posted with appropriate signs giving notice of such different limit by authorities having jurisdiction over the major street:

    (1)

    Lake Avenue, from the west village limits to Sheridan Road.

    (2)

    Skokie Boulevard, from the north village limits to the south village limits.

    (3)

    Hibbard Road, from Illinois Road to Skokie Boulevard.

    (4)

    Glenview Road, from the west village limits to Wilmette Avenue.

    (5)

    Wilmette Avenue, from Glenview Road to Green Bay Road.

    (6)

    Crawford Avenue, from Wilmette Avenue to the south village limits.

    (7)

    Ridge Road, from the north village limits to the south village limits.

    (8)

    Green Bay Road, from the north village limits to the south village limits.

    (9)

    Sheridan Road, from the north village limits to the south village limits.

    (d)

    Alleys. The maximum speed limit in all alleys in the village shall be 15 miles per hour.
