§ 14-296. Stopping, standing and parking.

  • Every vehicle stopped or parked upon a roadway where there is an adjacent curb shall be so stopped or parked with the right-hand wheels of such vehicle parallel with and within 12 inches of the right-hand curb, except as otherwise provided in the following subsections:

    (1)

    Upon streets which have been marked or signed for angle parking, vehicles shall be parked at the angle to the curb indicated by such marks or signs;

    (2)

    Upon one-way streets or any alley where signs have been erected indicating that parking is permitted upon the left-hand side of any such street or alley, vehicles parked in such area shall be parked with the left-hand wheels of such vehicle parallel with and within 12 inches of the left-hand curb;

    (3)

    In places where and at hours when stopping and loading or unloading of merchandise or materials is permitted, vehicles used for the transportation of merchandise and materials may back into the curb to take on or discharge loads when the owner of such vehicle holds a permit granting such privilege. Such permit shall be either in the possession of the driver or on the vehicle at the time such vehicle is backed against the curb to take on or discharge a load;

    (4)

    The Village Engineer and Chief of Police are authorized to issue special permits to permit the backing of a vehicle to the curb for the purpose of loading or unloading merchandise or materials, subject to the terms and conditions of the permit. The permits may be issued either to the owner or lessee of real property or to the owner of the vehicle and shall grant to that person the privilege as therein stated and authorized herein. It is unlawful for any permittee or other person to violate any of the special terms or conditions of any of the permits.
