§ 14-552. When lighted lamps are required.

  • When upon any highway in the village, during the period from sunset to sunrise, or at any other time when visibility is so limited as to require the use of lights for safety, every motorcycle shall carry and exhibit one lighted lamp commonly known as a driving light and every motor vehicle two such lighted lamps showing white lights, or lights of a yellow or amber tint, visible at least 500 feet in the direction toward which each motorcycle or motor vehicle is proceeding, and each motor vehicle, trailer, or semi-trailer shall also exhibit at least one lighted lamp which shall be so situated as to throw a red light visible for at least 500 feet in a reverse direction, provided that every trailer having a gross weight of 3,000 pounds or more including the weight of the trailer and maximum load shall be equipped with two lighted lamps one on each side of the rear of such trailer which shall be so situated as to throw a red light visible for at least 500 feet in the reverse direction.
