§ 24-237. Fire alarms; definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    (a)

    Fire Alarm Administrator means a person or persons designated by the governing authority to administer alarm dispatch requests.

    (b)

    Fire alarm user means any person, firm, partnership, corporation, association, organization, company, or other entity in control of an alarm site where a fire alarm system is located, but does not include the village.

    (c)

    False fire alarm means the activation of any fire alarm system through mechanical failure, malfunction, improper installation, or the improper operation or negligence of the owner or lessee of any fire alarm system or of his employees or agents. The term "false fire alarm" includes activation of any fire alarm system due to an act of nature, such as thunder, snow, ice, and electrical storms. It does not include activation of any fire alarm system due to any cataclysmic condition resulting in village-wide loss of utility services.

    (d)

    Alarm site means a single premise or location served by a fire alarm system. Each tenancy if served by a separate fire alarm system in a multi-tenant building or complex shall be considered a separate alarm site.

    (e)

    Fire alarm system means an alarm system designed to detect heat, smoke, operation of a manual fire pull station or alarm, operation of an automatic sprinkler system, operation of a hood suppression system, or other condition indicating danger or risk of fire.
