§ 26-209. Protection of the potable water system.

Latest version.
  • (a)

Prohibited connections. All plumbing installed within the village shall be installed in accordance with the Illinois Plumbing Code and this Code. Cross connections between the potable water system and any plumbing line, connections, fixtures or appurtenances are strictly prohibited.

    (b)

Cross connection control devices. All potable water service connections shall be protected from backflow and back-siphonage by means of cross connection control devices approved by the Illinois Plumbing Code and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. For existing plumbing, an approved cross connection control device will be required if, in the judgement of the Village Plumbing Inspector, it is necessary for the safety of the public water supply system.

    (c)

Installation and maintenance. It shall be the responsibility of the owner at his/her sole expense, to install, maintain, test and repair the cross connection control device. Cross connection control devices shall be installed at the location directed by the Village Plumbing Inspector.

    (d)

Testing and reporting requirements. Except as hereinafter provided, cross connection control devices shall be tested by a Cross Connection Control Device Inspector (CCDI) prior to initial operation and at least annually thereafter. Written results of all testing performed shall be submitted to the village for verification. For those cross connection control devices that are in use on a seasonal basis only, such as those operating in conjunction with lawn irrigation systems or swimming pools, testing must be performed, and test results submitted, each spring prior to reactivation of the system.
