§ 4-85. Generally.

  • (a)

    Reporting obligation. Any person having a reasonable suspicion as to, or knowledge of, the existence and whereabouts of any rabid animal or, of any violation of a confinement or quarantine order with respect to a rabid animal shall notify the Wilmette Police Department as soon as possible.

    (b)

    Authority of village. Whenever a case of rabies has occurred within the village or when a determination has been made that the risk from rabies (or other communicable infectious disease) is great, the village may take such reasonable action it deems necessary to protect the general health and welfare of persons and animals within the village, including, but not limited to, issuing a declaration that all dogs or other animals in the village be kept within an enclosure, muzzled, or otherwise confined to control the spread of rabies.
