§ 8-347. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Diameter breast height or DBH means the diameter of a tree stated in inches and measured at 4½ feet above the existing grade at the base of the tree.

    Remove or removal means the felling, destruction or actual physical removal of a tree.

    Tree means a self-supporting, woody plant, together with its root system, having a well-defined stem or trunk or a multi-stemmed trunk system, a more or less well-defined crown, and a mature height of at least eight feet. The term "tree" does not include trees in containers or nursery stock trees kept or maintained for resale.

    Tree permit means a permit issued by the Director of Community Development authorizing the removal of a tree pursuant to the provisions of this article.
