Chapter 22. REFUSE, RECYCLING AND YARD WASTE DISPOSAL |
Article VII. POTENTIALLY INFECTIOUS MEDICAL WASTE (PIMW) |
§ 22-163. Sharps.
Any person or entity receiving refuse collection service provided pursuant to article III of this chapter, whether by the village or a contractor engaged by the village, shall be required to dispose of sharps in the manner provided in this section.
(1)
Sharps shall be placed in a container which is:
a.
Rigid;
b.
Leak-resistant;
c.
Puncture-resistant;
d.
Impervious to moisture;
e.
Of a strength sufficient to prevent tearing or bursting under normal conditions of use or handling;
f.
Sealed to prevent leakage during transport;
g.
Identified by the Universal Biohazard Symbol, as depicted in the applicable regulations of the Illinois Pollution Control Board, title 35, Illinois Administrative Code; and
h.
Otherwise complies with applicable regulations of the Illinois Pollution Control Board and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, title 35, Illinois Administrative Code, and said regulations are incorporated herein by reference.
(2)
Sharps containers must be disposed of with a health care provider, hospital or other person or entity permitted by applicable law to receive PIMW, or may be disposed of at another location designated by the Community Development Department.
