§ 24-223. Audible alarm system requirements.

  • (a)

    Except as described in subsection (c) of this section, alarm systems emitting an audible signal that may be heard by persons outside the protected alarm site are prohibited.

    (b)

    No audible alarm system shall create a sound similar to that of the village's emergency weather warning sirens.

    (c)

    The following alarm systems are exempt from the prohibition set forth in subsection (a) of this section:

    (1)

    Any type of warning system maintained by a governmental agency;

    (2)

    Those alarms known as water flow alarms required by the Fire Prevention Code for automatic fire suppression equipment installed in any structure; or

    (3)

    Those alarm systems equipped with an alarm panel which shall have programmable features which:

    a.

    Shall be programmed to time out the audible signal after it has sounded for five consecutive minutes; and

    b.

    Shall be programmed either to:

    1.

    Activate the Communication Swinger Suppression after three activations of the alarm system; or

    2.

    Allow only single alarming per alarm zone per armed period.

    (d)

    With respect to alarm systems in existence prior to August 31, 1998, the alarm user shall have until March 1, 1999 to effect the necessary modifications to comply with the foregoing requirements.
