§ 26-253. Connections to public sewers.
(a)
All existing connections to area drains located outside of buildings may be connected to the storm drain whenever the grade of the main storm sewer permits. All existing roofs and paved areas, yards, courts, and courtyards may be drained into the stormwater sewer system, but not into sewers intended for sanitary sewage only. Paved areas, yards, courts and courtyards may be drained into the combined sewer system by permit only in accordance with village standards. When existing drains used for this purpose are connected with the combined sewer systems, they shall be properly trapped. One trap may serve for all such connections, but traps must be set below the frost line or on the inside of the building.
(b)
No persons shall make connection of roof downspouts, exterior foundation drains, areaway drains, storm sump pump or other sources of surface runoff or groundwater to a building sewer or building drain which in turn is connected directly or indirectly to a public sanitary sewer.
(c)
All existing stormwater inflow sources connected to the public combination sewer shall be disconnected from the public combination sewer and connected to the public storm sewer, within a reasonable time after a public storm sewer becomes available for such connection, but in no event later than such time as the property owner obtains a permit for work on said sewer connection, whether under this chapter or chapter 16, at which time said sewer connections shall be brought into compliance with this section.
(d)
Any new building domestic waste sewer service shall be distinct from the building inflow connection, to facilitate disconnection if a storm sewer becomes available.
(e)
New connections shall comply with section 26-241.
